Burgham Park Golf Club makes the Association its Charity for 2008

It was the Annual Prizegiving Night at the Burgham Park Golf Club, near Felton in Northumberland. An imposing array of cups and other trophies was on display to be awarded to the various Club Members who had distingushed themselves during the year.

But that Friday evening in November 2008 was also unforgettable night for MND Association Tyne & Wear Branch. The Golf Club Members had named the Association as its Charity of the Year and Branch President Ken Hylton was there to be presented with a cheque.

And what a cheque! £3,290! It is the biggest single donation that has ever been made to the Branch.

It was presented - on an appropriately large printed cheque - by the Club's retiring Ladies' Captain Liz Riddell and Men's Captain Glen Copeland.

Ken Hylton responded to the meeting, telling members something about the curse that is MND and thanking them wholeheartedly for their generosity and for having selected people living with MND to be the beneficiaries of the Club's charity work in 2008.

The Branch adds its heartfelt thanks to those voiced by Ken Hylton to the Members of Burgham Park Golf Club and sends its very best wishes to them for the Festive Season and for every golfing success in 2009.

Incidentally, the Men's Captain Glen Copeland has just fulfilled his ambition of completing an alphabet of golf courses during 2008, from 'A' through to 'Z'. He had to go to the Netherlands to find a golf course starting with 'Z'.
