Great North Run 2007
Engagement Party

Review of the Day | Stormtrooper

It was a special day in more ways than one for one young couple. Nicola Macdonagh and Andy Marran completed the Run.

Between the Finishing Post and the Welcome Tent, Andy proposed marriage to Nicola. Nicola accepted and they announced their engagement on arrival at the Tent.

But their day was also tinged with sadness.

Nicola had been spurred to enter for the Run because her brother, Michael, was training for last year’s Run but was killed in a road accident before he could take part. Nicola's mum, Marie, has MND and Nicola is her fulltime carer.

Nicola writes:

"It was an honour to run for my brother, albeit a lot slower than what he would have done, while also raising funds for MND.

"As you can imagine, it was a very emotional day with the reasons as to why I was running. The day was made extra special with Andy's proposal."
