Can You Help? The MND Tyne and Wear Branch is run entirely by volunteers. We are always on the lookout for people who can help us.Hidden talents? Is there anyone out there who has a particular interest in helping us with publicity? Producing information, articles for newsletters, press releases etc. Perhaps there is a budding journalist who would like to practice their writing skills for us by helping with the newsletter and/or drafting interesting items for the website? Are you good at organising? Enthusiastic? Good at networking and generating ideas? Could you lead a fundraising team for the Branch, planning a range of future activities and events to keep vital funds coming in? Could you help to arrange a social programme for Branch meetings so that members and supporters find meetings enjoyable and interesting and well worth attending? If you think you may be able to help, call for an informal chat either Martin Boyes (Branch Chairman): (0191) 548 5847 or Chris Ellison (Volunteer Development Coordinator): 0845 375 1845. As always, there is a warm welcome for all those who can give general support, such as lending a hand at collections, sales etc. Befrienders NeededAre you a good listener, caring, friendly and supportive? Could you be an Association Visitor with us? People with MND often feel isolated and alone, which is why the MND Association created the volunteer Visitor role to support people with MND and their families. They work as part of a local team, visiting people with MND or keeping in touch by telephone or email. They provide an invaluable link for people with MND, keeping them in touch with the Association and proactively signposting them to other sources of help and advice. It is a demanding but extremely rewarding role, giving the opportunity to use existing skills and learn new ones. The next training course is due to start in Harrogate, in October. It takes just four days over a period of three months; travel expenses and accommodation are all paid for to the course. If you would like to know more contact National Office for more information.
